My Performance reflection

Description

On Wednesday I performed Voodoo Child for our music class at school on the Guitar

Feelings

Before the performance I was feeling cold, a bit grumpy and pretty stumped on my tone.  During the performance I felt creative, cold and grumpy.

Evaluation

Overall, I felt the performance went alright, I wasn't as comfortable as usual. From a technical perspective, the following areas worked well for me: I think I played alright and used my dynamics correctly , whilst I felt I could work more on these areas: Getting used to the gear I don't normally use .

Analysis

Before the performance, I had focused on improving the following aspects of my technique: vocal phrasing. To do this, I had been working on the following practise techniques: playing along to the record and mimicking the voice. I have practised improving these techniques for about 10 minutes. lol I've been practising the entire piece for years but only playing it live mostly. In the performance, I felt that the practise I had done in these areas aided my performance in the following ways: playing in front of an audience and trying to move my fingers in the cold harsh conditions of the music room. During my performance, I also noted the following areas that I could still improve: confronting my fears of digital amplifiers and funny guitars while also trying to replicate the vocals mor\ 1. To improve on this I will practice versatility and maybe bring my gear in one day. During the performance I was feeling not that confident with my sound - this affected the areas I had worked on before the performance in the following ways: it was a struggle for my ears because if I'm playing something I try and make it sound right but I just couldn't get close to “the sound” as I normally do.

Conclusion

It's apparent that I now need to work on the following areas to improve my performance of my piece: play through my own gear. Looking at the amount of time I had put into preparing the performance and how it went overall, I think that I need to do the following things in my practise routine in order to improve my performance for next time: just maybe bring some more of my own stuff so my ears don’t cringe. Based on how much time I put into preparing my performance and the progress I made, I think I need to allow not a lot more practise time to see improvement in these areas.

What next

I'm going to take the following actions in order to prepare for my next performance:

Find a safe and economical way to transport my gear to the music room and back to my house and maybe even try harder to nail the vocal phrasing
